Panthers Fall in GMAC Rematch with Yellowjackets

OWENSBORO, KY. – In a rematch of last season's Great Midwest Conference Championship quarterfinals, the Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell in straight sets to Cedarville University. The Panthers topped the Yellowjackets back in the fall of 2019. Cedarville utilized a .264 attacking percentage on this day to top the Panthers.

The opening set was tied at six before the Yellowjackets (3-2 GMAC) took control and ran out to a 25-18 victory in the opening set. Lilly Trump recorded three of the Panthers' eight kills in the frame.

The Panthers (1-5 GMAC) trailed 11-7 in the second set before Cedarville ran off seven of the next eight points. The Yellowjackets continued their momentum in taking a 2-0 lead after winning the set 25-17.

Despite the 2-0 deficit, the Panthers fought back in the third set. Cedarville looked too comfortable with a 20-13 lead. A service error followed by back-to-back kills from Trump and the Panthers were within 20-16. Wesleyan continued to fight off the Yellowjackets, winning extended rallies. The Panthers won four points in a row with Karrah Cron, Kenlee, Perryman, and Trump each recording a kill in the rally that forced a Cedarville timeout while leading 23-21.

Out of the timeout the Yellowjacket won the next two points to end the match, 25-21. Trump finished with six kills in the final set and 11 kills for the match. Cron added six kills, four coming in the third set. She also dished out 11 assists. Carlee Widmer also added 11 assists. Nilah Roy collected 11 digs.

The Panthers will travel to Canton, Ohio on Friday for a match against Malone. The match is scheduled to start at 6 PM CT.
