Hot shooting Panthers take down Findlay

OWENSBORO, KY - The Panthers were hot all game against the Findlay Oilers, shooting 57.4% from the field and an unprecedented 61.9% from three en route to a 84-74 victory on Saturday afternoon. The trio of Jordan Roland, Wyatt Battaile and JoMel Boyd combined to score 68 of the Panther's 84 points. This is Wesleyan's first win over the Oilers since they entered the G-MAC in 2016-17.

After this game both teams now have a 5-3 overall record and a 1-1 record in G-MAC play.

Wyatt Battaile scored the first six points of the game for the Panthers before a three pointer by Jordan Roland gave KWC an early 9-4 lead. The teams battled back and forth over the next few minutes, and with 11:24 left in the opening half Findlay took a 17-16 lead. This would be the Oilers last lead of the game, as after a Roland three to go up 19-17, the Panthers never trailed. Following another Roland three, JoMel Boyd scored five straight points and Edward Jones Jr. dropped in a shot from behind the arc to extend KWC's lead to eight, 30-22. Findlay wouldn't go away though, and the Panthers led 45-38 at the break.

Kentucky Wesleyan shot an incredible 7-8 from behind the arc in the first half, and 18-29 from the floor.

Findlay cut the Panther's lead to three early in the second half, but a layup by Nathan Boyle and a jumper by Battaile quickly extended Wesleyan's lead back to seven .Midway through the half the Panthers went on a 12-4 run to extend their lead to 68-53 with 9 minutes left in the ball game. A jumper by Battaile a little over a minute later gave Wesleyan a comfortable 16 point lead with 7:22 to go. The Oilers worked to fight back, getting as close as six with 2:17 to go. That's when Jomel Boyd hit the biggest shot of the day, knocking in a three pointer from the baseline to make it a three possession game with just 1:49 to play. Battaile hit one more three in the final minute of play and the Panthers took this one by 10.

For the game, KWC shot 31-54 (54.7%) and 13-21 (61.9%) from behind the arc. UF shot a very respectable 28-59 (47.5%) from the floor and 5-21 (23.8%) from three. This is the best shooting game since the Panthers shot 66.7% in their win over Tiffin last season.

Jordan Roland led the way with a season high 24 points, followed by Wyatt Battaile (22) and JoMel Boyd (22). Boyd led the way with 7 rebounds while Jamil Wilson dished out nine assists. Nathan Boyle registered the Panther's only block of the game.
