NORTH CANTON, OH - In a game that saw KWC and Walsh shoot a combined 40-123 from the field and just 13-47 from behind the arc, the Cavaliers pulled out a 51-49 victory over the Panthers. KWC went cold at the end, scoring just two points over the final eight minutes of the game.
With the win Walsh moves to 4-2 (2-0 G-MAC) while Kentucky Wesleyan drops to 5-4 (1-2 G-MAC).Â
The game started with
Jordan Roland and
Antonio Thomas hitting back-to-back threes to put the Panthers up 6-3 a few minutes in. After Walsh went up 20-10 midway through the opening half, four different Panthers scored in a 13-0 run that saw KWC take the lead back 23-20. Walsh went up 26-23 before
Wyatt Battaile and
Nathan Boyle hit back-to-back threes and the teams went into halftime locked at 29.Â
WU held a small lead for much of the early portion of the second half before a jumper by
Sasha Sukhanov gave KWC a 43-42 lead. Wesleyan continued to push with Battaile and Boyle hitting jumpers to go up 47-44 with 8:44 left in the game. It was here when KWC went cold, going just 1-14 to close the game. Their defense was solid, but Walsh managed to squeak out just enough buckets to secure the win.Â
Jordan Roland led the Panthers with 13 points, followed by
Nathan Boyle and
JoMel Boyd with eight each. Boyd tied a season high with 12 boards while
Jamil Wilson notched three assists.Â
For the game KWC shot 21-63 (33.3%) and 7-26 (26.9%) from behind the arc. Walsh shot 19-60 (31.7%) and 6-21 (28.6%) from three. Free throws were the difference in the game, with Walsh going 7-12 from the line while Wesleyan failed to get to the line the entire game.Â
KWC will look to rebound on Saturday when they stay in Canton to face Malone. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.Â
