OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team closed the book on 2021 with an early Christmas present on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers won their fourth Great Midwest Conference game of the season with a 77-37 victory over Trevecca Nazarene University.
The Panthers (7-4, 4-1 GMAC) scored 14 of the first 16 points of the game as
Corina Conley buried a pair of three-point baskets in the opening frame. Wesleyan finished the first quarter of play with a 14-9 lead.
The Trojans (1-10, 0-5 GMAC) had no answer for the defensive pressure as turnovers led to buckets for the Panthers. Wesleyan ended the second quarter on a 14-2 run and established a 41-17 lead at the break. The Panthers outscored Trevecca 27-8 in the second quarter, busting the game open. Both
Cali Nolot and Conley each tallied 11 points in the first 20 minutes.
The lead grew to 34 points by the end of the third quarter as the Panthers finished with a 40-point win. The three-point shooting was on point at the Historic Owenseboro Sportscenter as the Panthers made 53% of their threes.
Emma Johnson knocked down six three-point baskets and finished the game with 21 points. Nolot and Conley each added 13 points. Conley also grabbed seven rebounds on the day.
The Panthers' defense stifled the Trojans as they forced Trevecca into 23 turnovers and 32% shooting. The Panthers scored 28 points off the TNU miscues. The Trojans went two of 20 from behind the arc as well.
The Panthers will return to the Historic Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday January 1
st. Wesleyan will host Ohio Dominican with tip-off scheduled for 12 PM.
