OWENSBORO, KY - In a game that was much closer than the final score indicates, the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers fell to the Malone Pioneers 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-11).
With the win the Pioneers move to 8-14 (3-7 G-MAC) while the Panthers fall to 2-19 (0-10 G-MAC).
The first set was close from the start with a
Lilly Trump kill giving the Panthers an early 8-6 lead. Later in the set a
Julia Kupper service ace put the Panthers up 21-19 and in a good position to win the set, but Malone close out by winning 7 of the next 10 points to take the set 26-24.
The second set saw the Panthers go down early, but they would storm back towards the end of the set and cut the lead to 23-22 on a kill by
Madelyn Hoskins. Malone closed out the set with two points to take the set 25-22.
Malone opened the third set on a 13-3 run and didn't look back, taking it by a score of 25-11.
Lilly Trump led the Panthers with 12 kills, followed closely behind by
Nicole Martin (11).
Karrah Cron tallied 26 assists while
Maggie Vincent notched 14 digs.
Wesleyan will be right back at it tomorrow when they take on the Walsh Cavaliers at 1 p.m. CT in Jones Gym.
