OWENSBORO, KY -
Madisyn Hunt did what she does best in Monday's matchup with Walsh, scoring three goals to notch the sixth hat trick of her storied career. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Walsh managed to put four goals in the net to stop KWC from getting their first conference victory.
With the win the Cavaliers move to 3-6-2 (3-3-1 G-MAC) while the Panthers fall to 3-7 (0-6 G-MAC).
The game got off to a hot start, with three goals being scored in the first seven minutes of play. After a Walsh goal,
Madisyn Hunt got on a breakaway and put the ball in the back of the net for her first goal of the game. Walsh picked up another goal a few minutes later on a shot from Faith Estes.
Chloe Hinchcliffe got on the break in the 37th minute, but Walsh goalie Romina Parraguez made the save to keep the score at 2-1. Walsh would tack on another goal before the half to make it 3-1 at the break.
20 minutes into the second half, Hunt used a Walsh deflection to her advantage, putting a perfect shot from 18 yards out past the keeper to bring the Panthers within one. Less than five minutes later, Hunt put in her third goal of the game, this time off the assist by
Elizabeth Collier. Walsh broke the tie in the 75th minute to give the game it's final 4-3 scoreline.
Hunt tallied three goals in the game, while
Chloe Hinchcliffe and Collier each had an assist.
Reegan Garrity made two saves in goal for Wesleyan.
The game was fairly even, with Walsh having a slight edge on shots (18-16) and shots on goal (6-4). KWC led in corner kicks (3-2) while Walsh led in fouls (9-7).
The Panthers will head to Ashland on Thursday, Oct. 14 in search of their first conference victory. Kickoff is set for 6 PM CT.
