Life as we know it has been abruptly put on hold.
Â
The coronavirus has caused everyone to alter their lifestyles, in the hopes of slowing down this virus. As a result, work, school, and sports have all taken a back seat.
Â
For all of the spring sports athletes, especially those seniors, I feel for you. I can only imagine the heartbreak that must be felt for all of your hard work that was put in during the offseason to suddenly be meaningless. Although my season was not interrupted, I feel for all of the basketball players and other athletes across the world who did not get to finish out their season chasing a championship.
Â
For college athletes, sports seem to define our lives. It feels unfair and unjust for this to be stripped right out of our hands, but the reality is that sports are not as important as the health and safety of society.
Â
There is no question that these measures that have been taken are necessary and justifiable. The virus may not be deadly for you, but it could be for your grandparents, neighbors, or someone else that you might not even expect. This is bigger than the individual. This is about the person next to you and how it can impact their life.
Â
It is of the utmost importance that all of us follow the guidelines that have been put in place by our government leaders. It may be hard, but it is something we must do.
Â
Nobody is in this alone. Everyone is in isolation and experiencing the same unfavorable circumstances. However, it is during times like these that we must remain optimistic. Even though it might not seem like it, life will return to normal eventually.
Â
I hope everyone can take away from this pandemic that we are very fortunate for what we have. Be thankful to do what you do and have the family and friends that you have.
Â
We never know when everything can be taken from us in the blink of an eye.
