Panthers Drop Two in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – After an off day on Tuesday the Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team was back at DiamondPlex for two more games on Wednesday. The Panthers fell twice on the day. No. 12 Saint Anselm topped Wesleyan 8-0 before a 4-2 loss to Felician to end the day.
 
Game 1: Saint Anslem – 8, KWC 0
The Panthers (4-13) coaxed six walks in the game, but could not pull a run across home plate. Wesleyan stranded seven runners on base while Bailey Woodall pitched tough throughout the contest. Woodall finished the game allowing five unearned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
 
Saint Anselm (13-2) scored one in the first and two in the third to take a 3-0 lead. They broke the game open in the six adding five runs to end the game.
 
Game 2: Felician 4, KWC 2
The Golden Falcons (3-6) took a 4-0 lead after the top of the fifth inning. The Panthers continued to apply pressure, but could not find the big hit to pull even. Wesleyan left 10 runners on base and loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth.
 
The Panthers scored two runs in the frame before the Golden Falcons escaped. Maddie Dawson recorded a sacrifice fly while Lexie Mullen drove-in a run an RBI single into center. In the sixth, Wesleyan put runners on second and third with no outs and eventually loaded the bases with two-outs, but could not score.
 
Evyn Hendrickson completed 4.1 innings allowing four runs, three earned on nine hits with five strikeouts. Cameron Hamilton pithed 2.2 inning of scoreless relief. Mikayla Benson finished the game two for three with a triple.
 
The Panthers will be back in action on Friday with two more games. Wesleyan will play Seton Hill at 9 AM CT while first pitch against Quincy is scheduled for 1:45 PM CT.
