OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with Ohio Dominican University on Thursday night, falling in a nail-biting overtime by a score of 92-90. Senior Kaylee Clifford posted a career-high 27 points including 6 three's.
Wesleyan fell into a 25-14 deficit after the first quarter with Leah Richardson scoring seven. The Panthers opened the second quarter with a 13-4 run to make it a 2-point deficit before Ohio Dominican pulled away to take a 39-31 lead at the half.
The score was knotted at 54 apiece entering the fourth quarter. Neither team was able to pull away as the score was tied 8 times in the final 10 minutes. With an even score and 17 seconds on the clock Ohio Dominican had possession but Wesleyan's defense came up big with a stop, sending the game to overtime.
Clifford lit up the scoreboard in the final stretch, scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter and overtime period. The Panthers trailed by six midway thru the extra time. They pulled within three with less than 30 seconds remaining, but ultimately fell 92-90.
Clifford finished with 27 points, 13 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks on the night. Tahlia Walton also scored in double figures with 15. Leah Richardson, Lily Miller and Cali Nolot each tallied nine. Miller and Nolot led the way with five assists each.
Wesleyan shot 48.0% from the floor, recording 27 assists on 36 made shots. The Panthers scored 25 fast break points while tallying 46 in the paint.
The Panthers conclude their three-game road trip on Saturday in Findlay, Ohio. Tip off is set for 12 pm CT against the Oilers. No fans are permitted at the game. The contest will be livestreamed for free on the Great Midwest Digital Network.
