OWENSBORO, Ky. – Four scored in double figures on Saturday as the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team used a monster third quarter to defeat Ursuline College (5-13, 2-7 G-MAC) by a score of 101-61.
The win marks the 30th straight home win for the Panthers (19-1, 10-1 G-MAC) which is already the longest home win streak in program history and is now the third longest active home win streak in all of NCAA Division II. The 40-point win is good for Wesleyan's 15th win of at least 20 points this season.
Neither team led by more than six points the entire first half. Wesleyan trailed by three with 3:36 remaining until Keelie Lamb evened the game with a three on an assist from Lily Skye Grimes.
Soon after Lamb converted a three-point play to give the Panthers a one-point advantage. Grimes and Kaylee Duncan tallied lay ups less than 20 seconds apart to give Wesleyan a 45-43 lead at the break.
The Panther offense absolutely erupted in the third quarter, outscoring the Arrows 35-4 with a monster 32-0 run that lasted over eight minutes. Wesleyan shot 61.9% (13-21) in the frame including a near perfect 5-7 from three-point range.
Emma Johnson led the run with seven points including 2-2 from downtown. Leah Richardson capped off the run with a deep buzzer beating three to give Wesleyan an 80-47 lead entering the fourth.
With 3:48 remaining, AJ Thomas converted a lay up to give the Panthers their largest lead of the game at 45 points. Wesleyan outscored Ursuline 56-18 in the second half en route to the 40-point win.
Cali Nolot recorded a career high 17 points along with a pair of rebounds, assists and steals. Emma Johnson posted a season-high 19 points, missing a career-high by two. Tahlia Walton scored 14 off the bench on 6-8 shooting.
Grimes was the fourth and final Panther to reach double figures, scoring 11 while dishing out five assists. Lamb flirted with a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds and scoring nine.
Wesleyan scored 30 points off of 20 turnovers while getting 54 points from the bench. The Panthers committed a season-low nine fouls on the day.
The two teams will face off again on Thursday as the Panthers head to Pepper Pike, Ohio. Tip off is set for 4:30 pm CT.
