CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team finished 0-3 on Saturday at the Max Services Duals hosted by Wabash College. The Panthers fell 38-12 to Manchester to start the day before taking a narrow 25-19 loss to Millikin. Wesleyan finished the competition with a loss to Wabash.
The closest match of the day was with Millikin (18-5) as
Adam Bender provided the Panthers (2-6) with a clean start. Bender displayed control throughout the bout, picking-up a 6-3 win over Joey Rivers.
Austin Cook continued the momentum with a 7-3 win at 133-pounds.
After
Andy Santana earned a major decision at 149-pounds as Wesleyan was on top 10-6. The lead grew to 16-6 after 157-pounds as
Trevor South was aggressive from the start of the match. In the second period South caught Nick Sablan on his back and press his shoulders down for a pin at 4:55.
In 157-pounds,
Dallas Miles earned a 7-5 decision to put the Panthers in position to win at 19-6. However, 184 and 197 remained open for the Panthers while Millikin won at 174-pounds to take a 22-19 lead.
Kairus Washington then suffered a 3-1 loss at Heavyweight to end the dual.
Washington pinned Victor Lee of Manchester in the day's opening match in the first period (1:34). Cook recorded a forfeit at 133-pounds as the Panthers fell 38-12 to the Spartans (4-8).
Bender finished 1-2 on the day suffering a 2-0 in the Manchester match while the dual against the host Little Giants (9-2) was littered with close bouts. Kory Cavanaugh defeated Bender 3-2. Cook,
Caleb Craig, and Washington all found themselves on the losing side of close matches.
The Panthers will travel to Findlay, Ohio for the Great Midwest Conference Duals on Friday and Saturday. Wesleyan will face Lake Erie and Ohio Valley on Friday as Alderson Broaddus, Tiffin, and Findlay await on Saturday.
