Panthers Set Records in the Classroom

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– It was a record setting year for the Kentucky Wesleyan College Athletic Department as 110 scholar-athletes were honored by the Great Midwest Conference with a selection to the All-Academic Team. Almost 2,000 student-athletes from around the league were officially named to the 2018-19 Academic All-Conference Team that was released on Wednesday afternoon.

Records were broken across the board as the conference celebrated hard work in the classroom from its 14 full-member institutions and three associate member schools competing in 23 total championship sports.

A total of 1,967 student-athletes, including freshmen for the first time, were part of the largest Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team roster in the league's history. It was the seventh consecutive season that numbers increased across the board, revealing sustained league-wide academic success.

Roughly one-third (30.3%) of all student-athletes at Kentucky Wesleyan earned a GPA of 3.3 or higher. One year ago 63 scholar athletes earned a spot on the annual list, an uptick of 47 scholar-athletes this year with freshman being eligible for the first time. In total there were 95 scholar-athletes the achieved a GPA of 4.0 this academic year with nine coming from Wesleyan. 

Nathan Boyle (men's basketball), Danielle Brouillette (volleyball), Maci Brown (softball), Kaylee Duncan (women's basketball) Lily Grimes (women's basketball), Sydney Goff (women's cross country and track), Angelique Laizure (women's cross country and track), Brittany Johnston (women's soccer), and Jose Ruiz-Lopez (men's tennis) all achieved a perfect 4.0 this season. Last season Wesleyan featured five scholar-athletes with a 4.0 GPA. 

To be named to the Great Midwest Academic All-Conference Team, the scholar athlete's grade point average must be a minimum of 3.30 based on the 4.0 system, the GPA shall be cumulative for the scholar athlete's entire collegiate career while completing at least one full academic year at the nominating institution.
