EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team squared off against the defending National Champions on Tuesday night, suffering a pair of non-conference losses to the University of Southern Indiana.
Game 1: KWC 1 – USI 5
The Screaming Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, plating one run in the bottom of the first. Southern Indiana extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth.
With one out in the fifth, Terrilyn Summers drew a walk and advanced to second on a bunt single from
Meredith Daunhauer.
Maddie Dawson lined a single to right field, scoring Summer and cutting the deficit to one.
Southern Indiana got one back in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth to take game one 5-1.
Bailey Woodall moves to 4-5 on the season, going the distance with five runs, ten hits and one strikeout.
Game 2: KWC 5 – USI 7
The Panthers mounted a five-run comeback in the top of the seventh. Facing a 7-0 deficit, Wesleyan strung together three hits to plate the five runs.
Jamie Tempel drew a bases loaded walk before
Jaylin Tidwell ripped a two-out, two-run double to left center field.
Lexie Mullen lined a single up the middle, driving in two more before the Panthers luck ran out.
Maci Brown moved to 4-4 on the year, throwing 4.0 innings with ten hits, six runs and two strikeouts.
Evyn Hendrickson went the final 2.0 innings, striking out one and allowing one run off of one hit.
The Panthers return to Great Midwest Athletic Conference action this weekend, hosting Ohio Dominican on Friday at 3 and 5 pm, followed by Ohio Valley on Saturday at 12 and 2 pm.
