Softball Hands Ohio Dominican First G-MAC Loss of Season

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team went toe-to-toe with Ohio Dominican University on Friday, suffering 6-4 loss in extra innings in game one before bouncing back with a 3-2 victory in game two, handing Ohio Dominican their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference loss of the season.

Game 1: ODU 6 – KWC 4 (12 innings)
Ohio Dominican held a 3-1 lead after the third inning.  Wesleyan took advantage of three Panther errors in the bottom of the fourth to score two runs and even the game at three.

The two teams combined for five hits over the next five innings, sending the game well into extra innings.

Ohio Dominican plated one run in the top of the tenth on a one-out double to the gap in right center.  Wesleyan tied the game in the bottom of the tenth with Abbey Winstead lining a single to right field to drive in Bailey Woodall.

A scoreless eleventh sent the game to the twelfth inning that saw Ohio Dominican take a 6-4 lead off of two hits.  Wesleyan put the game-tying run on base in the bottom of the frame but was unable to score.

Meredith Daunhauer finished three-for-six at the plate with one run scored while Winstead and Terrilynn Summers both recorded two hits.

Autumn Grady took the loss, throwing 11.2 innings with 12 hits, six runs and five strikeouts.  Evyn Hendrickson closed out the final 0.1 innings, allowing one hit and holding the Panthers scoreless.

Game 2: ODU 2 – KWC 3
Ohio Dominican's perfect conference record was broken in game two.  After belting at least ten hits in their last three games, the Panthers were held to just four.

Wesleyan strung together five hits in the bottom of the fifth to plate their three runs.  Jamie Tempel drove in Delaney Mixer with a single before Jaylin Tidwell knocked a two-out single to left, driving in Tempel and Daunhauer.

Woodall picked up her fifth win of the season, going the distance with four strikeouts, four hits, two runs and not allowing a walk.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday hosting Ohio Valley at 12 pm CT.  Wesleyan will celebrate their eight seniors in a post game ceremony at Foster Field.
