Recording Setting Day at Panther Park

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team improved its record on Saturday afternoon with two wins over Tiffin University. Devin Smith and Zach Burton were dealing on the mound as the offense provided plenty of run support. The Panthers took the opener 14-2 and topped the Dragons in game two 6-3. Joseph Burke connected on his record setting 34th career homerun in the process while Head Coach Todd Lillpop won his 400th game as the Panthers' Head Coach.
 
Game One: Kentucky Wesleyan 14, Tiffin 2
As the series was originally scheduled to be at Tiffin, weather moved the four-game set South. Three errors in the opening inning, allowed the Panthers (24-18, 17-9 G-MAC) to take a quick 3-0 lead. Cam Curry capped off the three-run frame with an RBI single into leftfield.
 
Wesleyan did most of its damage in the top of the third with a nine-run rally. The Panthers sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame as Chase Andrews drilled a three-run homerun over the leftfield fence. Brayden Sisson drove-in two runs with a double down the leftfield line while Burke plated two more runs with a hard-hit single into left.
 
Leading 12-1, Smith continued to dial-up scoreless frames. Smith completed six innings allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts to earn his seventh win of the season. Benton McGill pitched the final three innings to pick-up a save.
 
Ian Ellis finished the game three for four with a double and homerun over the centerfield fence in the top of the sixth. Sisson was three for four with a double, hit-by-pitch, two RBIs, and scored three runs.

Burton took a no-hitter into the fifth as the Burke started the scoring for the Panthers in the top of the fourth with his record-setting homerun. Lane Kennemore led-off the frame with a double while Burke set the Wesleyan career homerun record with a blast over the left-centerfield fence. Ethan Maxey made it a 3-0 game with two-out RBI double. Ben Wilcoxson also provided a two-out RBI to build a 4-0 Panther lead. The five-run frame ended with Sisson's RBI single.
 
The Panthers added another run on a wild pitch in the sixth to give Burton a 6-0 lead. Burton completed six innings allowing three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. The Dragons (16-27, 13-13 G-MAC) scored three times in the bottom of the sixth and got the lead-off hitter on in the seventh to chase Burton.
 
Joey Lara came-in relief and got Aaron Gonzalez to roll into a double play. Cody Orr grounded-out to end the game. Lara earned his first save of the season.
 
Kennemore finished the game two for four with a double and two runs scored. Wilcoxson was two for three with an RBI. Reece Puckett was also two for three. Burke, already the Great Midwest homerun leader, has belted 34 homeruns, besting John Hill's career mark. Hill hit 33 homeruns for the Panthers from 1983-86.
 
The Panthers will have two more games against the Dragons on Sunday. First pitch at Panther Park is scheduled for 12 PM CT.
