Baseball Takes Night Cap in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team split a Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader with Trevecca Nazarene on Friday afternoon.  Wesleyan dropped game one, 8-4, before posting a 15-5 victory in game two.  The Panthers have now won six of the last ten meetings with the Trojans.

Game 1: KWC 4, TNU 8
The Panthers only recorded one hit in the first inning, but were able to score a run when Chase Andrews was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Trevecca plated one run in the second to even the game at one.  With two outs in the third, Andrews laid down a single in left field then scored on a double to right center from Cam Curry to put Wesleyan ahead 2-1.

Back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fourth scored four runs for the Trojans, giving them a 5-2 lead.  Wesleyan made it a one-run game in the seventh after two straight RBI singles from Joseph Burke and Andrews. 

The Trojans pulled away again in the seventh with a pair of runs before scoring their final run in the eighth.

Chris Johnson moved to 2-2 on the mound after striking out five and allowing five runs in 3.1 innings.  Mitchell Jones threw 3.0 innings, striking out three and allowing two runs off of one hit.  Joey Lara closed out the final 1.2 innings, allowing one run off of one hit.

Andrews finished game one three-for-four at the plate with two runs driven in and one run scored.  Burke tabbed two hits while Sisson, Curry and Ben Wilcoxson recorded one a piece.

Game 2: KWC 15, TNU 5 (7 innings)
Wesleyan pounced early in game two, scoring two runs in the top of the first.  Sisson led off the game with a base hit up the middle before Andrews brought him in with a double to right field.  Curry grounded out to the shortstop but was able to score Burke to give Wesleyan an early 2-0 lead.

12515A trio of runs in the third extended Wesleyan's lead to 5-2.  Curry tabbed a sacrifice fly before Ethan Maxey drove in two with a single to left field.  Trevecca responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to make it a one-run game.

The Panthers pulled away with five runs in both the fifth and sixth inning.  With the bases loaded, Reece Puckett knocked a base-clearing double to left field.  Puckett then scored on a double from Sisson.

Three straight hits to begin the sixth inning extended the lead to 13-3.  Curry tabbed a RBI double before Ian Ellis hit a home run to left field for his first home run as a Panther.  Sisson drove in the Panthers final two runs, lacing a double down the left field line.

Ryan Hundley picked up his first win of the season, striking out three and holding the Trojans hitless in 1.1 innings of work.  Taylor Soper took a no decision in his first start of the season, allowing three runs off of three hits.

Nolan Johnson, Jonathan Allen and Benton McGill combined for the final 2.0 innings.

Sisson finished game two four-for-five at the plate with three runs driven in and two runs scored.  Andrews went two-for-three with one run scored and two driven in.

The Panthers close out the series with Trevecca on Sunday.  First pitch is set for 1 pm CT in Nashville.
