ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In the final competition of the regular season, the Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team competed in the Lombardi Duals on Sunday afternoon. The annual event hosted by Maryville University is one of the toughest events of the season. The Panthers lost a pair of duals to two top-15 teams. Wesleyan fell 56-0 to No. 13 Maryville and 38-8 to No. 15 Indianapolis.
The Saints (8-6) picked-up five falls on the day in shutting-out the Panthers (0-10).
Kairus Washington dropped a 4-1 decision at heavyweight. Washington was taken down early and was unable to even the score late in the third period before time expired.
LaMont Wilson started the match against Greyhounds (12-7) with a dramatic 7-5 win at 125 pounds. Wilson edged ahead with a reversal in the third period and fought off a late escape with six seconds left to hang-on.
James Loi won by forfeit at 141 pounds.
Washington was again put into a tight match-up against Brian Wagner at heavyweight. Wagner won the back-and-forth match 7-6. After going down early, Washington took a lead late in the final period before a late flurry got Wagner the victory.
The Panthers will travel to St. Charles, Missouri on Saturday, February 23
rd for the NCAA Regional. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9 AM CT.
