OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team cruised to its 11thstraight win on Wednesday night, defeating Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponent Trevecca Nazarene 78-52 to remain perfect at 11-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
The win marks the 25th straight victory at The Owensboro Sportscenter, the longest home win streak in program history. It also marks the seventh straight win by at least 20 points or more.
A lay up in the second half put senior
Keelie Lamb at 1,000 career points. She is the 20thplayer to join the 1,000 point club in program history.
Trevecca scored the first basket of the game but the Panthers utilized a game-best 14-0 run to take control. The Panthers first three baskets came from beyond the arc from
Kaylee Duncan,
Kaylee Clifford and Lamb.
After outscoring the Trojans 20-5 in the first, Wesleyan posted 29 points in the second quarter after shooting 78.6% (11-14) from the floor. Lamb, Clifford,
Emma Johnson,
Jordyn Barga,
Tahlia Walton and
Rachel Richardson all made every shot that they took in the second quarter.
Wesleyan took a 49-17 lead to the break. Of the 18 made baskets in the first half, 17 of them had an assist.
Just over three minutes into the third,
Cali Nolot drained a three to extend the lead to 36 for Wesleyan's largest lead of the game.
The Panthers finished the game with 26 made shots and 25 assists, led by Nolot with four. All but two players picked up an assist on the night.
Lamb finished with a team-high 18 points and flirted with a double, grabbing seven rebounds. Clifford posted 16 points and four rebounds while Barga recorded 10 points. Nolot led the team with three steals.
Wesleyan will have a pair of non-conference games to close out the calendar year, hosting Harris-Stowe on December 22 and Cumberlands on December 30. The Panthers will return to G-MAC action on January 2 when they travel to Canton, Ohio to take on Walsh University in a rematch of last years G-MAC championship.
