NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team produced another in-region victory on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers upended Missouri Science and Technology 62-53 at the Pops Duncan Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene. Wesleyan led wire-to-wire, forcing the Miners in to 27 turnovers while
Kaylee Clifford recorded her first double-double of the season.
The Panthers (2-0) continued to showcase their depth this season as they forced the Miners (0-2) into an uncomfortable pace. Wesleyan held a 20-12 lead after the opening quarter and continued to grow the advantage into the second quarter.
Clifford converted a three-point basket early-on in the frame to give the Panthers an 11-point lead, 24-13. Wesleyan maintained a double-digit lead for most of the frame, eventually growing to 13-points with a minute left after
Emma Johnson's bucket. The Miners trailed by 10 at the break while only converting one third of their shot attempts.

At the start of the second half, the Miners' adjustment brought them within striking distance. Mykala Baylor got the basket and converted a lay-up at the seven-minute mark, bringing S&T to within 32-28. A three-point basket by Clifford followed by a jumper from Johnson quickly returned a three-possession lead. A steal and lay-up by
Tahlia Walton follow, giving the Panthers a 39-28 lead and ending an 8-0 run.
The Panthers led by as many as 15 in the final quarter as they distanced S&T down the stretch. Wesleyan scored 24 points off the Miners' turnovers. The Panthers were not as prolific from the three-point line as they were in the season opener, but still managed to connect on five.
Clifford finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double. She also collected four blocks and four steals in the victory.
Lily Skye Grimes added 11 points and four assists. Walton and
Keelie Lamb each finished with 11 points. Lamb also grabbed six rebounds.
The Panthers will put their 17-game winning streak on the line on Wednesday evening as they will host Oakland City University. Tip-off at the Sportscenter is scheduled for 6 PM.
