Panthers Pop 14 Threes in Extending Home Winning Streak

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team opened the historic Sportscenter for the 2019-20 season with another victory on Wednesday evening. The Panthers extend their home winning-streak to 18 games after a 110-47 victory over Oakland City University. Maddy Boyle produced a career-high while five players reach double-figures on the night.
 
The Panthers (3-0) quickly built a double-digit lead in the opening quarter as the defense sparked the rally. Wesleyan squeezed passing lanes and forced turnovers throughout the final five plus minutes of the quarter. Tied at 7-7, a turnover led to a quick lay-up by Tahlia Walton as the Panthers forced five more turnovers in the frame to build a 27-7 lead.
 
The Wesleyan defense kept the Mighty Oaks (0-2) scoreless for over six minutes before they ended the drought in the second quarter. OCU made a run in the second frame as they trimmed their deficit to eight points, 34-26 with less than four minutes left in the half. Cali Nolot ended the threat with a three-point basket which ignited a 15-0 run to end the half.
 
13600The rally continued into the third quarter as the Nolot and Kaylee Clifford connected on back-to-back three-point buckets. The run finished at 21-0 before the Mighty Oaks' Tabby Klem converted a free-throw. The Panthers ended the third with a 79-35 lead.
 
The Panthers converted on 13 of 16 shots from the field in the final quarter as the lead continued to grow. For the game, Wesleyan knocked down 61% of their shots from the field, including a 14 of 33 clip from the perimeter. The Panthers forced 31 turnovers and scored 46 points off those turnovers.
 
Boyle finished with a career-high 18 points in 16 minutes of action off the bench. Keelie Lamb added 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Jordyn Barga recorded a career-high 12 points. Walton added 11 while Nolot finished with 10 points. Lily Skye Grimes helped orchestrate the offense with six assists as she also finished with eight points and three steals.
 
The Panthers will travel to Springfield, Illinois on Tuesday for another rematch with a Great Lakes Valley Conference foe. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 PM CT.
