FROSTBURG, Md. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College football team wrapped up its non-conference schedule on Saturday, heading to Frostburg, Md. to take on Frostburg State of the Mountain East Conference. The Panthers trailed by one at halftime but a strong third quarter from the Bobcats gave them a 35-25 victory.
On the opening drive of the game, the Bobcats had first and goal from the five-yard line but the Panther defense stood tall, stopping the rush on fourth-and-goal from the four-yard line.
The Panthers went deep on their first offensive play of the game with Wiley Cain finding LaDarrius Dunn for a 34-yard gain. Cain found David Florence for a five-yard gain, putting the Panthers in Bobcat territory. After a pair of penalties, the Panthers faced third-and-twenty but a defensive pass interference gave Wesleyan a fresh set of downs inside the 10. Dalen Gipson hauled in an 11-yard pass before Corey Johnson Jr. punched in the score. The extra point attempt was blocked, putting Wesleyan ahead 6-0, a score that would stand until the end of the first quarter.
The Bobcats got on the board midway through the second quarter, utilizing four plays to march 43-yards downfield. Frostburg took a 7-6 lead to halftime.
Both teams scored a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter, combining for over 200-yards of total offense. Peyton Peters made heads turn with a diving catch in the end zone. The potential game-tying two-point conversion was not successful, keeping it 14-12 in Frostburg's favor.

Frostburg used less than 40 seconds to respond with a touchdown of their own, taking a 21-12 lead. The Panthers answered back with a touchdown in three plays. Cain found Dunn for a 20-yard gain before Jatorian Dillard exploded for a 25-yard run. Cain connected with Dunn again for a 30-yard pass, this time to the end zone. Chris Mangold converted the extra point to make it a 21-19 deficit.
Penalties proved costly for the Panthers on the Bobcats ensuing drive as they stormed down field to take a 28-19 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Wesleyan's defense forced three straight incompletions on the Bobcats first drive of the final frame. Facing fourth-and-ten, Jalen Wilson and Tyreik Norwood sacked the Bobcat quarterback for a loss of 8-yards and giving the Panthers the ball inside the 40-yard line. Dillard recorded a 14-yard run before Frostburg picked off a pass and returned it 48-yards to the end zone. The extra point was good, allowing the Bobcats to go ahead 35-19 for their largest lead of the game.
Facing fourth-and-ten, the Panthers went for it on their next drive. Peters grabbed a 14-yard catch and put Wesleyan inside the red zone. Johnson Jr. punched in the four-yard run and Mangold converted the extra point to make it 35-25 with less than four minutes remaining.
Frostburg took over 2:30 off the clock and turned the ball over on downs. The Panthers got the ball back at their own 13-yard line with 1:25 remaining but were unable to get a first down.
The Panthers recorded 340-yards of total offense with 274-yards coming in the air. Cain completed 29 passes and now sits at 2,138-yards on the year. Dunn led the receivers with 87-yards followed by Peters at 65.
Josh Thompson anchored the defense with 11 tackles, five of which were solo. Jalen Humphrey recorded eight while Wilson finished with seven. Ramond Jackson led the team with a pair of pass break ups.
The Panthers return home next week for their season finale. Wesleyan will square off with Alderson Broaddus in the G-MAC Founders Cup on Saturday, November 16 at Independence Bank Field at Steele Stadium in Owensboro.
