COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team faced a stifling defense on Thursday evening in Ohio Dominican University. The Panthers were looking to win their sixth match in a row, but ODU held home field with a 1-0 victory, snapping Wesleyan's streak.
The Panthers (8-7, 5-6 GMAC) looked to incorporate a similar formula as they have for entire month. Wesleyan again tried to utilize its speed to take the early edge, but Dominican was ready for the tempest storm known as the Panthers' offense.
Any chance to find a break away in the first 45 minutes was met with resistance as ODU (10-5, 8-3 GMAC) held defensively and forced the Panthers back into their own zone. ODU took 12 shots in the first period nine on goal, but
Taylor Rentchler made all nine saves to persevere scoreless tie at the break.
Natalie Hinchcliffe accounted for the only Wesleyan shot in the first half.
The Panthers saw their offensive chances limited in the second period as ODU continued to pressure. The match looked to be headed to an extra period as Dominican missed an opportunity on a set piece from a corner kick in the 86
th minute. However, less than two minutes later, in the 88
th minute, Ashley Story scored the lone goal of the match.
Rentchler finished the match with 14 saves facing 22 shots, 15 on goal. Wesleyan posted a 6-2 mark in the month of October. The Panthers will stay in the Columbus area to play Cedarville on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30PM
