Crossover Limits, Panthers Fall to USI in Five

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team went the distance again at the Crossover, but on Saturday fell 3-2 to Southern Indiana. The Panthers previously played USI earlier this season and fell 3-0 in Evansville.   
 
The Panthers (10-9) featured a blistering attack it the opening set, hitting .429 in the frame. Wesleyan collected 16 kills in the set against one error. As the Panthers trailed 15-14 midway through the opening set the Wesleyan rattled off six straight points to take control. Danielle Brouillette recorded two of the Panthers six points in the run.
 
Leading 20-15, the Panther coasted to set point. Jaylen McEwen recorded the final kill, giving Wesleyan a 25-21 win.
 
USI won the second set after falling behind 7-1. The Screaming Eagles (11-11) posted a .344 attacking percentage in the frame. The Panthers led 16-13 in the set, but stumbled down the stretch.
 
The Panthers completely dominated the third set, winning 25-14. Wesleyan won nine of the first 11 points and coasted to a 2-1 edge in the match. However, the Screaming Eagles were able to force a fifth set after winning the fourth 25-17.
 
In the decisive set, USI held a .500 attacking percentage and looked to make short work of the Panthers. Trailing 13-9, the Panthers won five of the next six points to close within one. Leah Anderson ended the match on the following exchange with a kill. The Panthers finished the Crossover 2-1.
 
McEwen finished with 17 kills and 11 digs to lead the Panthers. Julia Moran recorded 15 kills while Nicole Martin added 11 kills in the loss. Lydia Jackson dished out 43 assists on the day while Nilah Roy led the team with 15 digs.
 
The Panthers will host Ohio Valley on Friday. The match at Jones Gymnasium is scheduled to start at 7 PM CT.
