Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Panthers Secure Seventh Straight Win

PHILIPPI, W. Va. – A 28-point performance from Jenna Martin fueled the Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team to a 76-63 win over Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday afternoon.  The 11th win in 12 games puts the Panthers at 11-3 on the season and second place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference at 7-1.

The Battlers scored the first basket of the game on a lay up before Kaylee Clifford responded with a three pointer 90 seconds into the game.  Wesleyan never looked back, leading the remainder of the contest.

The Panthers came out strong in the first quarter, putting 24 points on the board while shooting 57.1% from the floor.  Martin knocked back a trio of three's to tally 11 points in the first 10 minutes of action.

Emma Wolfe drained a three with 2:33 remaining in the first half to give the Panthers a 38-25 lead, their largest of the first half.  Martin beat the buzzer with another three to accumulate 21 points in the first half alone on 5-8 from beyond the arc.  Wesleyan took a 41-28 lead to the break while shooting 42.9%.

Alderson Broaddus battled back in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 20-10 to cut Wesleyan's lead to three entering the final frame.

The Panthers offense exploded for a 15-0 run over five minutes of action to establish a 64-48 lead with just under six minutes remaining.  The Battlers were unable to notch a basket in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter.  Wolfe ignited the run with a fast break lay up before Kaylee Clifford and Keelie Lamb both contributed five points.

From then on Wesleyan never surrendered the 10-point lead, posting their fifth straight double digit victory.

Martin finished with a season-high 28 points, falling four short of her career high of 32 posted last season.  Clifford flirter with a double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing nine rebounds.

Wolfe reach double figures in scoring with 11 points while Lamb, Lily Grimes and Emma Johnson each scored eight points.  Lamb led the Panthers with three assists.

Wesleyan remains on the road next week, travelling to Ohio Dominican on Thursday followed by Ohio Valley on Saturday.  The Panthers return home the following week to host Hillsdale and Findlay.
