Battlers Hot in Victory Over Panthers

PHILIPPI, WV. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team suffered a 89-67 defeat to Alderson Broaddus University on Saturday. The Battlers were quick to start and did not experience much hardship on the offensive end of the floor.

The quick tempo by the Battlers (7-7, 4-3 G-MAC) caught the Panthers (6-7, 4-3 G-MAC) off guard from the onset. Before Wesleyan could settled into the contest AB had built a 24-7 lead through the first seven minutes of the game. It did not get much better offensively for the Panthers as Head Coach Drew Cooper kept looking for the right chemistry on the floor.

AB made nearly 70% of its shots in the first 20 minutes in taking a 56-26 lead into the locker-room. The Panthers turned the ball over nine times in the first half while the Battlers only suffered four miscues in the opening period. Wesleyan converted on 34% from the field as the three-point touch was limited, going two of 11.

In the second half the Panthers found the back-door open at the start, scoring seven quick points. The momentum was not sustained as AB called an early timeout to halt the Wesleyan rally.

The Panthers then utilized full-court pressure defensively, slowing down the Battlers. Once getting the  ball into the front court, AB worked the shot-clock, limiting the Panthers in possessions and transition.

The Battlers cooled offensively, finishing the contest shooting 53% from the floor. AB enjoyed a 25-4 cushion in points off turnovers as well.

Mohamed Abu Arisha finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds. Deng Mayot added 13 points and five rebounds.

The Panthers will continue the road trip on Thursday with a visit to Columbus, Ohio and a match-up with Ohio Dominican. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT.
