OWENSBORO, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell in five sets to Ursuline on Tuesday evening to finish out a long week. The Panthers won the opening two sets, but could not find the edge in any of the final three. Three players reach double-figures in kills while Alexa Davis led the team with 13 on the night.
The Panthers (5-5, 0-2 G-MAC) raced out to a 14-9 lead in the opening set as the Arrows (4-3, 1-1 G-MAC) never got within five points the rest of the way. Wesleyan was solid offensively in the firs set, holding an attacking percentage of .265.
Again in the second frame, the Panthers jumped out to a large margin, 11-6. The Arrows won six of the next eight points to pul within one, 13-12. Wesleyan found more separation, but Urusline would not go away. Trailing 22-15, The Arrows won eight of nine points to tie the set at 23. Jaylen McEwen got Wesleyan to set point with a kill as an error ended the set, 26-24.
The Panthers rallied late in the third set. Trailing 21-18, Sierra Morrow, Autumn Harris and Davis all teamed-up for blocks to tie the set at 21. The Arrows fought off three set points as Wesleyan looked to make it a sweep. Eventually Ursuline won the final three points, 29-27.
A back and forth fourth set went the way of the Arrows as they tied the match after a 25-23 win. Kills by Morrow and Julia Moran opened the fifth, but Ursuline rattled off five straight points to take control. Three errors by the Arrows allowed the Panthers to tie the set at 6, but Wesleyan fell victim of long rallies and nine of the last 11 points to fall 15-8.
Morrow hit .250 on the night and recorded 12 kills. McEwen added 11 kills and 18 digs on the night. Nicole Venema finished with 33 digs. Lydia Jackson collected 27 assists while Kylie Foster produced 25 assists.
The Panthers will travel to Elkins, West Virginia on Saturday to play Davis & Elkins. The match is scheduled to start at 1PM CT.
