OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team opened Great Midwest play with a 3-0 loss on Monday night. The Panthers were led by
Jaylen McEwen and
Sierra Morrow who each produced seven kills.
Wesleyan kept it close throughout the first set. Trailing 14-12 after a kill from
Danielle Brouillette, the Panthers dropped the next three points and could not threaten again, falling 25-19.
A 5-0 run early in the second set gave the Strom (6-2, 1-0 G-MAC) an 11-4 lead. The Panthers found a spark when
Kori Weaver enter the game to serve. Weaver held serve for six straight points and helped Wesleyan to a 5-0 run to bring the contest to 21-20. Both teams exchanged points until the end of the frame as LEC took a 2-0 lead after a 25-22 win.
The Strom completely controlled the third set. The Panthers attempted different combinations on the floor throughout the frame, but could not find that right mix to ignite another rally. The Storm held a .324 attacking percentage in the frame and won 25-8.
Morrow held a .217 attacking percentage to go along with her seven kills. She also had five digs.
Nicole Venema finished with 18 digs while
Lydia Jackson dished out 26 assists.
The Panthers will continue Great Midwest play on Tuesday evening with a match against Ursuline. The contest is scheduled to start at 6 PM CT.
