OWENSBORO, KY. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to Trevecca Nazarene 3-2. The Trojans found the controversial game-winner in the 94th minute as the shot rebounded off the cross bar, straight down before rolling out of the net.
The match started with the Panthers (2-4-1, 2-3-1 G-MAC) striking first in the 29th minute. As Erica Zetter's throw in found Natalie Hinchcliffe who made a one touch pass to Madallyn Peveler. After a quick turn, Peveler fired through the right side of the Trojans (5-2-1, 4-0-1 G-MAC) net.
The lead was short lived as the Makena Schlosser found a deflection three minutes later and found some space in front of the Panthers net to convert the equalizer. After 45 minutes the match remained tied at 1-1.
Madisyn Hunt gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute. Zetter centered a pass to Hunt who beat the defense and converted the score.
The Panthers looked to extend the lead in the 81st minute, but Hinchcliffe's shot was saved by Trojans' keeper, Delayna Holman. The Trojans tied the match in 83rd minute.
Less than five minutes into overtime, the trojans found the game-winner. After Lidiya Ogorodnik's shot hit the crossbar and bounce out of the goal, there was a delay before determining a good goal.
Zetter finished with three shots. Brittany Johnston made six saves on the night.
The Panthers will travel to Vienna, West Virginia on Thursday to play Ohio Vally. The match is scheduled to start at 12 PM CT.
