OWENSBORO, KY. - Saturday night became a little sweeter for the Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team after finishing 4-0 at its own Invitational which included a four set victory over crosstown foe, Brescia University. The Panthers started the day with a straight set victory over Bluefield State College.

The Panthers (5-3) were not tested in the morning session against Bluefield State. Danielle Brouillette finished with five kills and six aces. Kori Weaver recorded seven aces and four digs while Alex Montoya dished out 16 assists.

Game 2: Kentucky Wesleyan 3, Brescia 1 (24-26, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19)

The final match of the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational got top billing as both teams entered the contest 3-0. Inside a loud Jones Gymnasium the Bearcats (8-6) fought back from a late deficit to take the opening set. Wesleyan held a 24-22 lead, but Brescia rattled off four straight points to upset their hosts.

The response was loud and decisive in the second set as the Panthers rolled to a 15-9 lead after winning six of seven points. Sierra Morrow and Nilah Roy teamed-up for a block that ended a 4-0 run and got Wesleyan to set point. Morrow ended the frame with a thunderous kill moments later.

The Bearcats jumped out to a large 11-6 lead in the third act, but five straight points by the Panthers tied the set. Morrow collected back-to-back kills in the rally. The hard work almost went for not as Brescia led 23-21 late. The response from the Panthers was again made with emphasis by winning five of the last season points to take a 2-1 lead.

Brescia simply ran out of gas in the end. Wesleyan trailed 14-11 in the fourth set when Jaylen McEwen held serve for eight straight points as the Panthers won seven, taking a 18-14 lead. The Bearcats never threatened again as Morrow ended the match with her 13th kill of the evening.
