XENIA, Ohio – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team faced one of the best pitchers in the Great Midwest Conference on Friday afternoon, leaving little room for error. Erin Hunt threw over 100 pitches as she struggled with control, but the Panthers could not make her pay, taking a 4-0 defeat.
Hunt elevated her pitches throughout the contest, walking three and throwing three wild pitches. The Panthers (27-25) could not bring in
Maddie Dawson in the top of the first as Hunt left her stranded in scoring position. Same for
Delaney Mixer in the second inning as she was left at second base with two outs.
Evyn Hendrickson was up to the task as she matched Hunt nearly throughout the contest. The game was halted due to inclement weather in the bottom of the second inning with the Chargers (23-14) having two runners on with two outs. After the 25-minute delay, Natalie Walters broke the scoreless tie with a three-run homerun over the left field fence.
Hendrickson allowed just one more run the rest of the way, leaving four Chargers on base in the five innings of work. Hunt scattered three hits throughout the contest to get Hillsdale into the title game.
The Panthers will be back in action this evening in hopes of finding a rematch. First Wesleyan will have to play Findlay or Ohio Dominican who are currently playing their second elimination game of the day. First pitch will be at approximately 6 PM CT.
