Softball Salvages Split at D&E

ELKINS, W. Va. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team fell in game one of Friday's doubleheader at Davis & Elkins College before taking game two.

Game 1: KWC 1 – D&E 2
Maddie Dawson led off the top of the third with a walk and moved into scoring position on a groundout.  Lexie Mullen laid down a single in left field to score Dawson and put Wesleyan ahead 1-0.

The Senators evened things up in the bottom of the fifth after a lead off double, sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly.  It was déjà vu in the bottom of the seventh as they scored the winning run in the same sequence.

Wesleyan outhit Davis & Elkins 6-2 but were unable to take advantage of scoring opportunities.  Meredith Daunhauer, Jaclyn Parker, Andee Powell, Jamie Tempel, Dawson and Mullen each tallied one hit.

Maci Brown suffered her ninth loss of the season, throwing a complete game with three strikeouts, two runs and two hits.

Game 2: KWC 3 – D&E 1
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead after scoring three runs in the first two innings.  With runners on the corners and one out, Mullen hit a groundball to the shortstop, allowing Daunhauer to score.

Parker stepped up with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the second and drove a single up the middle, allowing Daunhauer and Dawson to score, extending Wesleyan's lead to 3-0.

The Senators scored one run in the bottom of the third but Autumn Grady held them to one hit in the final four frames to hold on for her seventh win of the season.  Grady struck out one and allowed five hits in 7.0 innings.

Daunhauer and Jamie Tempel both went three-for-four at the plate in game two.  Daunhauer led the Panthers with two runs scored while Parker drove in two.

Wesleyan closes out the road trip at Alderson Broaddus on Saturday with a doubleheader set for an 11 am CT start.
