Baseball Drops Midwest Regional Match Up

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team couldn't find a spark in its offense on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a doubleheader to Midwest Region foe Bellarmine University.

Game One: Bellarmine 5 – KWC 1
The Knights took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first after stringing together three hits in the opening frame including a three run home run.

In the bottom of the inning, the Panthers loaded the bases with no outs.  Ostin Clark drove in Cody Bridges with a sacrifice fly to left field to put Wesleyan on the board.

Bellarmine extended their lead with one run in the top of the second and tacked on their final run in the top of the fifth.

Bridges went two-for-three in game one with one run scored.  Joseph Burke and Jake Carter tabbed one hit a piece.

Cam Curry suffered his first loss of the season on the mound, throwing 3.1 innings while allowing four runs off of six hits.  In 2.1 innings of relief, Spencer Jackson struck out two while giving up one run off of three hits.  Heath Brownley and Allen Howe combined for the final 1.1 innings, holding the Knights scoreless with just one hit.

Game Two: Bellarmine 9 – KWC 1
Bellarmine struck early in game two, taking a 7-0 lead after three innings.

Ostin Clark led off the bottom of the fifth with a double off the wall in left field.  Two batters later Jake Carter singled to left field, moving Clark to third.  Levi Tanner grounded out to second, but Clark was able cross home plate, putting the Panthers on the board.

Back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth scored the final two runs for Bellarmine.

Taylor Soper went 2.2 innings in his first loss of the season, allowing six runs off of six hits.  Nate Verst threw 1.1 innings, striking out two and giving up one run.  Joey Lara allowed six hits and two runs in 2.0 innings.  Alex Franzen closed out the final inning, striking out two and holding Bellarmine hitless.  The Panther pitching staff combined for six strikeouts.
