Hundley's Dozen K's Leads Panthers Past Trojans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team earned a crucial win in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference South Division on Friday night, taking down Trevecca Nazarene University 6-2.

Ryan Hundley dominated in his third win of the season.  The junior struck out 12 while holding the Trojans to three hits and one run in 7.0 innings pitched.

The Panthers put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning after a sacrifice fly from Andrew Kirkland and a RBI single from Ethan Maxey.  Trevecca responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame to make it a 2-1 ballgame.

Cam Curry knocked his fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth, a solo shot down the left field line to extend Wesleyan's lead to 3-1.

Cody Bridges led off the top of the fifth with a single and was brought home by Joseph Burke.  The sophomore hit his conference-leading 14th home run of the season, putting the Panthers ahead 5-1.

Wesleyan tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth after Burke drew a walk to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  The Trojan catcher attempted to pick off Burke at second, but the throw sailed into centerfield, allowing Burke to score.

Trevecca put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth, stringing together a pair of hits and scoring one run on a wild pitch but Nate Verst struck out the final batter to hold on for the win.

Bridges finished two-for-five at the plate with two runs scored while Kirkland went two-for-four.  Burke finished one-for-three with two runs scored, two driven in, and two walks.  Lane Kennemore, Curry and Maxey each tallied one hit.
