Two Good of a Friday

OWENSBORO, KY. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball picked-up two Great Midwest victories on Friday over Ursuline. The Panthers shut-out the Arrows 6-0 in the opener before taking game two 8-2. Both Maci Brown and Autumn Grady pitched complete games.

Jaylin Tidwell started things off on Good Friday with a solo homerun down the left field line to give the Panthers (15-14, 3-5 G-MAC) a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Meredith Daunhauer drove-in another run in the second with sharp single through the left side of the diamond.
 
Maddie Dawson kept the second inning alive with a two-run double into right center to extend the Wesleyan lead to 4-0. Andee Powell produced a RBI single in the fifth while Tidwell added another run in the fourth with a ringing double off the left centerfield fence.
 
Maci Brown was aces throughout, pitching a complete game shutout. She scattered three hits with four strikeouts. Tidwell was two for four with a homerun, double, and two RBIs. Dawson was also two for four with a double and two RBIs. Powell finished two for three with a double and RBI.
 
Game 2: Ursuline 2, Kentucky Wesleyan 8
The Panthers jumped on top early in the second game as Lexie Mullen drove in a run with a first inning double. Courtney Lockwood added another tally with a sacrifice fly while Mullen later scored on Abbey Winstead's double.
 
After a three-run first frame the Panthers added four runs in the third. Delaney Mixer started things with a RBI single into left. Powell added a pair with a double while Jamie Tempel finished the frame with a run scoring double.
 
The Arrows (3-16, 0-2 G-MAC) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homerun, but Grady squashed any threat of a rally thereafter. The Panthers added some insurance in the sixth with Tidwell's RBI single.
 
Grady pitched a complete game allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. She earned her fifth win of the season in the process. Abbey Winstead finished the game two for two with a double and RBI. Daunhauer was one for two with two stolen bases while Mixer was two for three with a RBI.
 
The Panthers will play two more games on Saturday as Lake Erie comes to town. First pitch at Foster Field is scheduled for 12PM. Start time is subject to change.
