Panthers Fall in Music City

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team suffered a midweek sweep from Trevecca Nazarene University on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers lost the opener in  eight innings 8-6 before dropping the finale 10-2.

Game 1: Kentucky Wesleyn 6, Trevecca 8
The Panthers scored first in the top of the second inning on Jamie Tempel's two-out RBI single. Wesleyan added another run in the top of the third on Courtney Lockwood's solo homerun that cleared the left-centerfield fence.

Lexie Mullen added to the lead in the fifth inning as she hit a missile over the scoreboard in leftfield. Her three-run homerun gave the Panthers a 5-0 lead. However, the Trojans answered with five runs in the bottom half to tie the game.

Mullen gave the Panthers a 6-5 lead in the seventh as she drove in Meredith Daunhauer on a grounder. A solo homerun by the Trojans with one-out in the seventh knotted the game again.

The Panthers stranded the Trojans on the bags throughout most of the game, excluding the fifth inning. A two-run walk-off homerun ended the game in the eighth.

Maci Brown earned a no-decision after going 4.1 innings, allowing five runs, three earned on six hits with five strikeouts. Daunhauer was two for four with two runs scored and a stolen base while Mullen was one for four with a homerun and four RBIs.

Game 2: Kentucky Wesleyan 2, Trevecca 10
The Panthers got off to another good start in the second game as Mullen drove in a pair in the top of the first inning with a double to right field. The Trojans tied the game with a single tally in the bottom of the first and second inning respectively.

Three more runs from the Trojans in the fourth and fifth built an 8-2 lead. Two more runs in the sixth ended the contest. Evyn Hendrickson completed 4.1 innings allowing seven runs, three earned on five hits with one strikeout.

The Panthers will host two games against Ursuline on Friday. First pitch at Foster Field is scheduled for 12 PM.
