OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team split a pair of games on Saturday afternoon against Davenport University. Davenport shut-out Wesleyan 6-0 in the day's opener while the Panthers flexed their muscles in the finale, winning 6-2. The two teams have matched-up five times this season with DU holding a 3-2 edge in the series.
GAME 1: Davenport 6, Kentucky Wesleyan 0
In the opener,
Maci Brown's lone early blemish came in the top of the first inning where Davenport (13-4) manufactured a run a double steal attempt. A solo homerun in the fourth gave DU a 2-0 lead. The Panthers (10-7) collected only one hit on the day.
Davenport added four runs in the top of the seventh to provide insurance. Brown went the distance allowing six runs, five earned with five strikeouts.
GAME 2: Davenport 2, Kentucky Wesleyan 6
DU scored in the top of the first in the second contest, but
Lexie Mullen knocked a two-out double, scoring
Meredith Daunhauer and tying the game.
Jaclyn Parker followed with a RBI single giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead.
The Wesleyan lead grew to 4-1 after Mullen powered another shot into the power alley and over the left-field fence for a two-run homerun. The Panthers added another run in the fourth to build a 5-1 lead.
Autumn Grady continued to be the kryptonite for Davenport as she pitched out of a jam in the fifth, allowing just one run.
The Panthers got the run back in the bottom of the fifth with Parker's sacrifice fly. Grady earned her second win against Davenport and fourth victory overall on the season after pitching a complete game. She allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Mullen finished two for three with a double, homerun, and three RBIs.
Andee Powell also collected two hits in three tries with a run scored.
The Panthers will host Bellarmine on Tuesday afternoon with the first pitch at Foster Field scheduled for 12 PM.
