The Panthers Respond

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team responded to a disappoint loss to Point Park on Monday with a pair of impressive wins on Tuesday. The Panthers brushed the dew off Legends Way Field to top Dominican College 5-1. In the day's second game, Wesleyan won a pitcher's duel 2-1 over Gannon.

GAME 1: Dominican 1, Kentucky Wesleyan 5
The Chargers (3-6) took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Panthers (5-6) responded in the bottom half. Back-to-back doubles from Jaylin Tidwell and Lexie Mullen tied the game with two-outs in the frame.

The Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the third. After three singles loaded the bases, the Chargers got the next two outs to bring Courtney Lockwood to plate. Her single dropped over third base and down the line, scoring a pair and giving the Panthers a 3-1 lead. Tidwell made it a 5-1 game in the fourth with one-out, two run single into centerfield.

Bailey Woodall pitched her way out of jam in the fifth and cruised to complete game. Woodall allowed one run on six hits to earn her first win of the season. Tidwell was three for three with a double and two RBIs.

GAME 2: Kentucky Wesleyan 2, Gannon 1
Maci Brown pitched a gem against Gannon in the second game. Brown and Autumn Grady combined to close the door on the Golden Knights (3-3) with 10 total strikeouts.

The Panthers' defense and Brown flew through the first three innings, but the Golden Knights loaded the bases in the fourth. However, Brown limited the damage to one run.

In the fifth Delaney Mixer came to the plate with two outs and a runner on second. Mixer connected on her first homerun of the season, clearing the left-centerfield fence and giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead.

Brown completed 6.1 innings before Gannon put a runner in scoring position in the seventh. Grady came in and produced two strikeouts, ending the game and earning the save. Brown scattered six hits while allowing one run with eight strikeouts, earning her second win of the season.

The Panthers have Wednesday off and will play two more games on Thursday. Wesleyan will play Nyack at 9 AM ET with an 11:30 AM contest Gannon to follow.
