Panthers Take Two

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College softball team started seeing double on Thursday as they picked-up two more wins at Legends Way Field. The Panthers moved their winning streak to four after an 11-0 win over Nyack and a 5-4 nail biter over Gannon.

GAME 1: Kentucky Wesleyan 11, Nyack 0
Lexie Mullen started the scoring for the Panthers (7-6) with a RBI single in the first inning. The lead went to 3-0 after Andee Powell drove in a pair in the top of the second inning. Maddie Dawson ended the three-run frame with a RBI triple, giving Wesleyan a 4-0 lead.

Mullen and Jaclyn Parker each drove in a run in the fifth, building a 6-0 lead for the Panthers and starter Evyn Hendrickson. Wesleyan scored five more in the top of the seventh as the frame was capped-off by Jamie Tempel's two-run homerun over the right-centerfield fence.

Hendrickson pitched a complete game shutout to earn her second win of the season. She allowed just three hits while striking-out 10 on the day. Meredith Daunhauer set the table for the Panthers' offense with a three of five morning, scoring two runs. Mullen finished two for four with a double and two RBIs.

GAME 2: Gannon 4, Kentucky Wesleyan 5
The Panthers did all their damage early against Gannon. Mullen again sparked the offense again, this time with a three-run homerun in the first inning. Wesleyan batted around in the opening frame as Powell drove-in two more with a double to right center. The five runs chased Golden Knights (3-5) starter Madi Beining from the contest.

Gannon was not finished as they scored two runs in the third, but Autumn Grady left the bases loaded to end the frame with back-to-back pop-ups. The Golden Knights kept putting runners on base in the fourth, but the Panthers got through the frame unharmed.

In the fifth the Knights plated two more runs before Maci Brown shut the door in the inning. Brown left a runner in scoring position in the sixth before completing her first save with a clean seventh. Grady earned the win with 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with one strikeout. Brown pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing two hits.

Parker finished the game two for two with a double and run scored. Mullen was two for three with a homerun and three RBIs.

The Panthers will complete their spring break trip on Friday with two more games. Wesleyan will play Concordia University (MN) at 11:30 AM ET with the finale being against Saint Anselm College at 4:30PM in the afternoon.
