Clark's Two Homers Push Panthers Past Warriors in Sunday Split

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Ostin Clark drilled two home runs on Sunday, helping the Kentucky Wesleyan College baseball team to a 6-2 victory over Wayne State University in a rematch of the 2017 NCAA Midwest Regional.  In game two, the Panthers erased a three-run deficit to take a one-run lead but fell 10-4.

Game 1: Wayne St 2 – KWC 6
The Panthers scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the second on Clark's first home run of the game, a two-run shot to left field.  Wayne State responded with a two-run double with nobody out in the top of the third.  The Warriors threatened to take the lead with runners on first and third with one out, but Ryan Hundley struck out a batter and forced a groundout to get out of the jam.

Andrew Kirkland led off the bottom of the third with a single through the left side and moved to second on a single from Clark.  Ethan Maxey drew a walk to load the bases with one out.  Cam Curry hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Kirkland and putting Wesleyan ahead 3-2.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Clark hit his second dinger of the game, a solo shot to nearly the same spot in left field to extend the Panthers lead.  Wesleyan tacked on its final two runs in the bottom of the sixth after Lane Kennemore singled through the left side with two outs.

Ryan Hundley went 3.2 innings, striking out four and allowing two runs off of six hits.  Heath Brownley picked up his first win of the season after facing just one batter in the top of the fourth.  Nate Verst threw two scoreless frames while Alex Franzen tossed the final inning, striking out one.

Clark finished game one a perfect three-for-three at the plate with 2 home runs, three runs batted in and two runs scored.  Cody Bridges, Kennemore, Kirkland and Levi Tanner all tabbed one hit apiece.

Game 2: KWC 4 – Wayne St 10
The Panthers found themselves in a 3-0 deficit after the first inning but responded with four runs over the next two frames to take a one-run lead.  With two on and one out, Curry ripped a double to center field, scoring Maxey.  Levi Tanner tied the game at three with a two-run home run to right field, his first of the season.

Bridges led off the top of the third with a single up the middle and reached third on a single from Kennemore.  Kirkland hit a sacrifice fly to deep centerfield, scoring Bridges and giving the Panthers a 4-3 lead.
Neither team was either to score in the fourth or fifth inning with the two teams combining for five runners left on base.  The Warriors broke open the game in the bottom of the sixth innings, scoring seven runs off of seven hits and two errors.

Chris Johnson went 4.0 innings, striking out four and allowing three runs off of four hits.  Kyle Matter suffered his first loss of the season, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing four runs off of three hits.  Spencer Jackson allowed three runs off of three hits while Joey Lara pitched the final 0.2 innings, striking out one.

Kennemore, Curry and Tanner each tabbed two hits in game two with Tanner driving in two runs.  Bridges and Ben Wilcoxson had one hit each.

The Panthers will complete the three-game series with Wayne State on Monday with a nine-inning game set for 12 pm CT.
