OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion on Thursday, powering past Ohio Valley University for a 78-60 Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory.
The Panthers clinched a spot in the 2018 G-MAC tournament last weekend and are currently slated as the seventh seed. With six G-MAC games taking place on Saturday, the final seedings and host site have yet to be determined.
Wesleyan led by five after the first quarter and extended its lead to double digits midway through the second frame as
Keelie Lamb stole the ball in the paint and made a fast break lay up. The Panthers scored 10 points off of turnovers in the first half alone to take a 36-28 lead to the break.
Codie Drake scored the first basket of the second half with
Jenna Martin dishing out an assist on the lay up. The Panthers heated up in the final 20 minutes, shooting 59.38% from the floor. With just under two minutes remaining,
Shayla Wright nailed a three pointer to put Wesleyan ahead by 21, their largest lead of the game.
Wright tabbed her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, eight of which were defensive. Martin led the offense with 25 points, shooting 10-16 from field goal range, and dishing out a team high five assists and four steals.
