Panthers Take the Sting Out of Yellowjackets

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team took down the Great Midwest's top team in Cedarville University on Thursday evening. Five players reached double figures for the Panthers in a 88-76 victory at the Sportscenter.

The Panthers (12-8, 8-8 G-MAC) fell by 18 points earlier in the season to the Yellowjackets (17-4, 12-3 G-MAC), but it was a different story on Thursday starting with the second quarter. The Panthers made a furious comeback in the second frame to tie the game heading into the locker-room.

Ashlyn Huffman gave CED a 38-27 lead with three minutes left in the second frame. The defense stepped-up as Wesleyan would not let the Yellowjackets score for the remainder of the period. The Panthers went on an 11-0 run starting with Kelsey Ivers' free-throws. Addie Reimbold scored five points in the middle of the rally while Lily Grimes tied the game with a lay-up in the final seconds.

The Yellowjackets took a 50-44 lead midway through the third, but the Panthers rallied again to take a 62-60 into the fourth quarter. Shayla Wright drained three, three-point baskets in the final four minutes of the frame to give the Panthers the lead.

The fourth quarter was owned by the Panthers as Reimbold's three-point basket with less than eight minutes left gave the Panthers a 68-62 lead. The lead was three with five minutes left in the game, but Wesleyan finished the game in near flawless fashion. Emma Wolfe hit a three while Keelie Lamb got to the basket for high percentage shots or drawing fouls. Lamb scored 10 of her game-high 25 points in the final minutes of the game.

Lamb picked-up six rebounds to go along with her 25 points on seven of 19 shooting. Reimbold recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Grimes and Kaylee Clifford each added 12 points, Clifford also finished with five rebounds. Wright made three of four three-point shots and finished with 10 points off the bench.

The Panthers will host Ohio Dominican on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 PM CT.
