Panthers Topple Yellowjackets at the Sportscenter

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Chandler Redix got the start on Thursday evening and came up big down the stretch for the Kentucky Wesleyan College men's basketball team in an 81-76 victory over Cedarville University. Redix sprung into action in the final minute scoring four points to help secure a Great Midwest victory.

The Panthers (13-11, 7-7 G-MAC) shared the ball throughout the first half and built a 50-42 lead. Wesleyan dished out 18 assists on 20 made baskets in the first 20 minutes. Brandon Hatton buried four of five three-points baskets in the half to help lift the Panthers to a halftime cushion.

The Yellowjackets (10-11, 5-9 G-MAC) rallied to start the second half, cutting the deficit to 50-48 within the first three minutes, forcing a Panthers timeout. A three point play by Tenhove Conner minutes later gave Cedarville a 53-52 lead. Malek Harris answered with a jumper on the following possession, ending a 13-2 CED run to start the half.

Every time the Panthers looked to find separation with a three-point play or timely basket, the Yellowjackets answered with offensive rebounds and timely three-point baskets. CED only made four threes in the second half, but saved the perimeter touch for the final minutes of the game.

Rasheide Bell left in the final two minutes with an injury, but Redix returned to convert a dramatic lay-up with 51 seconds left that extended the Wesleyan lead to 79-73. Joey Morlan answered with a three-point basket, but Redix got to the foul line on the next possession and converted two free throws to ice the game.

Hatton finished with 22 points and four assists to lead the Panthers. Evan Milligan came off the bench to add 19 point on eight of 10 shooting. Milligan also pulled-in five rebounds. Harris was a rebound shy of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Bell dished out team-best five assists while Dakota Quinn recorded four more blocks, including one on the final possession.

The Panthers will host Ohio Dominican on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off at the Sportscenter is scheduled for 3:15PM CT.
