Cedarville Defeats Wesleyan in Four Sets

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team fell in four sets to Cedarville University on Friday evening. The Yellow Jackets avenged an earlier season loss to the Panthers from back in September.

The Panthers (14-15, 8-10 G-MAC) got off to a slow start as the Yellow Jackets (12-17, 10-8 G-MAC) took advantage. With the help of Wesleyan errors in the first set, Cedarville took a 1-0 lead after winning the opener 25-12.

The Yellow Jackets' momentum slowed in the second set as the Panthers ran out to an 8-3 lead. Danielle Brouillette helped maintain a Wesleyan lead as her kill later in the set gave the Panthers a 17-14 advantage. Cedarville pulled and even and the back-and-forth battle continued.

Brouillette recorded another kill late to give the Panthers set point at 25-24. However, the Yellow Jackets responded with three straight points to win 27-25 and go on top 2-0.

Wesleyan trailed in the third set, but pulled even at 22-22 before taking a 23-22 lead after Jaylen McEwen's kill. McEwen then produced back-to-back kills moments later to give the Panthers a 26-24 win and cut Cedarville's lead down to 2-1.

The fourth set continued to showcase a match-up of two equally talented teams. The Yellow Jackets won the first four points in the fourth, but the Panthers quickly responded and pulled even at 5-5.

Both teams began to exchange points and neither Wesleyan or Cedarville could value a lead of more than two points the rest of the way. McEwen again kept the Panthers in contention as her kill brought the fourth frame to another near deadlock, 23-22 in favor of Cedarville. The Yellow Jackets won the next two points to end the match 25-22.

McEwen finished with 12 kills and 26 digs. Julia Moran added 10 kills while Lydia Jackson collected 23 assists.

The Panthers will travel to Tiffin on Saturday for the final match of the regular season. The contest is scheduled to start at 2 PM CT.
