The Comforts of Home

OWENSBORO, KY. – Records fell on Thursday evening at the historic Owensboro Sportscenter. The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team recorded its first win of the season by downing Ohio Christian University 119-26. In total four Wesleyan records were set while another was tied in their first home game of the 2018-19 season. 
 
Six players reached double figures on the night as the Panthers (1-2) stormed out of the gate and never looked back. Wesleyan scored the first 10 points of the game in just over two minutes. The Trailblazers (1-5) struggled offensively throughout the first half and trailed 29-5 after the first quarter.
 
The hot shooting continued for the Panthers in the second quarter, embarking on 18-4 run in the first five minutes. The lead grew to 60-13 at the break as the margin continued to expand throughout the final two quarters.
 
Keelie Lamb led all scorers with 27 points, only missing one shot from the field, finishing 11 of 12. She also pulled-in eight rebounds. Shayla Wright added 25 points off the bench and also grabbed seven rebounds.
 
11021The 119 points in a single-game breaks a six-year old mark (115) previously set at Bellarmine in 2012. The 93-point win tops a nearly 40-year old record for margin of victory, previous mark was a 71-point win against Fort Campbell in February of 1979.
 
Jenna Martin collected 15 points while dishing out six assists and collecting four steals. Emma Wolfe added 14 points and four assists while Lily Grimes ended the game with 12 points, five assists, and four steals. Emma Johnson also finished in double-figures as she finished with 11 points, four steals, and three blocks.
 
The Panthers also set records with 19 made three-points baskets and 38 three-point attempts. Wesleyan hit 14 three-point buckets in 2007 at SIU-Edwardsville. The Panthers also tied the all-time mark of 21 steals in a game. Wesleyan also recorded 21 steals in a single-game back in January of 1989 against Quincy.
 
The Panthers will host Lane College on Wednesday evening.  Tip-off at the Sportscenter is scheduled for 2 PM CT.
