Panthers Stave Off Dragons

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team outscored Lane College in each quarter on Wednesday afternoon en route to a 61-45 victory.  The Panthers have posted back-to-back wins to move back to .500 entering Thanksgiving weekend.

The Dragons tabbed the first basket of the game before the Panthers strung together seven points including a three-pointer from reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference women's basketball athlete of the week Shayla WrightEmma Johnson buried a three of her own at 3:51 to extend Wesleyan's lead to double digits.

Wesleyan shot 37% from the floor in the first half to take a 33-22 lead to the break.  Keelie Lamb finished the first half with 12 points.

Lane improved its shooting percentage by nearly seven points in the second half but were unable to close the gap.  A fast break jumper midway through the third cut the Dragons deficit to seven but the Panthers utilized a 10-4 run, including a three-pointer from Kaylee Clifford in the final seconds, to take a 13-point lead entering the final frame.

Lily Grimes sunk a free throw at the 6:50 mark to give Wesleyan their largest lead of the game at 17 points.  Lane was unable to overcome the double digit deficit as the Panthers held on for the 61-45 win.

Lamb led all players with 17 points while Grimes tallied nine points and two assists.  Johnson grabbed six rebounds, four of which were defensive.

Wesleyan scored 13 points off turnovers while recording 28 fast break points.

The Panthers open G-MAC play next weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tenn. to take on Trevecca Nazarene.
