INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team wrapped up day two of the Midwest Crossover on Saturday, falling to Quincy in five and Southern Indiana in four.
The Panthers dominated the first set against Quincy, hitting .275% to the Hawks' .089%. Facing a 17-17 tie,
Jaylen McEwen halted the Hawk's momentum with a kill that set up three straight points for the Panthers to take a 20-17 lead. The Hawks closed it, cutting Wesleyan's lead to 22-21 but a Hawk service error followed by kills from
Autumn Harris and
Alexa Davis allowed the Panthers to take set one 25-21.
Wesleyan's momentum continued into the second set, taking the first three points including a service ace from
Nicole Venema. The Hawks responded with a 5-0 run to take their first lead of the set. A tightly contested set didn't allow the Hawks to gain more than a three point lead. Quincy held the lead the majority of the set until a block by
Sierra Morrow and
Lydia Jackson gave Wesleyan a 24-23 lead. The Panthers took the second set 25-23 after a ball handling error on the Hawks.
It was deja vu in the third and fourth sets as neither team took a lead of more than four points. The Hawks held a 24-23 lead in the fourth set but three straight points from the Panthers forced extra points. Back-to-back kills from
Mallory Sacre and McEwen put Wesleyan ahead 32-31 until Quincy strung together three points to take the fourth set 34-32. The Panthers stumbled in the fifth set, falling 15-1 to allow Quincy to take the match 3-2.
Morrow finished game one with 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .279%. McEwen tallied 15 kills and a team-high three aces.Â

Facing a 10-7 deficit in set one of game two, the Panthers utilized a 6-0 run to take a 13-10 lead.Â
Kristina Canary, Morrow and McEwen each tallied a kill in the six-point streak. With the set knotted at 19, the Screaming Eagles tallied four straight points to take the first set 25-21.
The second set was tied at 14 before Wesleyan pulled away with four straight points including a pair of kills from
Julia Moran. Southern Indiana responded with six points of their own to take a 20-18 lead.Â
Sierra Morrow notched a block to tie things up at 22 before the two teams split the next six points. The Screaming Eagles took the second set 27-25.
Set three belonged to the Panthers as they tabbed a hitting percentage of .696%. A 5-0 run including a pair of kills from Davis allowed Wesleyan to take a commanding 20-10 lead. Morrow tallied a service ace before Moran tabbed a pair of kills to take the third set 25-13.
Southern Indiana jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the fourth set before the Panthers clawed back to make it 11-10. Six straight points from the Screaming Eagles allowed them to take an 18-11 lead. Trailing 24-18, Wesleyan staved off match point three times on kills from Moran and Davis before the Eagles took the fourth and final set 25-21.
Morrow led the Panthers with 15 kills in game two followed by Davis at 13 and Moran at 12. Morrow also added five blocks and two service aces.Â
