NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College volleyball team returned to Great Midwest action on Tuesday evening and picked-up another import league victory. Wesleyan topped Trevecca Nazarene 3-1 as
Jaylen McEwen exploded offensively with 19 kills. The victory helps the Panthers gain better position for the upcoming G-MAC Tournament which grows closer as the season approaches its final weeks.
The Panthers (13-12, 7-7 G-MAC) hit .227 in the opening set and took a 1-0 lead after taking the frame 25-22. The Trojans tied the opening set at 23, forcing a Wesleyan timeout.
Sierra Morrow produced back-to-back kills out of the break to give the Panthers the early lead.
The Trojans improved in the second set, hitting .355 in the frame to square the match after a 25-19 win. The back-and-forth battle continued into the third set as the Trojans held a 16-14 lead. The Panthers rattled-off six straight points to take a 20-16 lead. McEwen recorded two kills in the run and helped give Wesleyan the cushion needed to take the third set 25-22.
Seven consecutive early points in the fourth set gave the Panthers a 10-4 lead, an advantage they did not give-up. A late run by TNU was not enough to catch Wesleyan as they closed out the match with a 25-22 win.
McEwen held a .286 attacking percentage to go along with her 19 kills.
Lydia Jackson finished with 26 assists while
Nicole Venema collected 22 digs.
The Panthers will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday to play Ohio Dominican. The match is scheduled to for 12PM CT.
