Panthers Defeat Battlers 68-49 for Fifth Straight Victory

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team continued its winning ways on Saturday afternoon, tabbing its fifth straight conference win with a 68-49 victory over Alderson Broaddus.

The Battlers scored the first four points of the game to build up a 8-2 lead and hold a seven-point lead at the 3:25 mark of the first quarter.  Back to back threes from Addie Reimbold and Kelsey Ivers cut the deficit to one.  With 33 seconds remaining Codie Drake nailed another three pointer to put the Panthers ahead by one but a lay up in the final second gave the Battlers a 17-16 lead after the first frame.

Emma Wolfe opened the second quarter with a pair of threes to give the put the Panthers up by five as they would never trail the remainder of the game.  Wesleyan closed out the final 46 seconds of the half with three pointers from Jasmine Shelt and Keelie Lamb to take a 33-26 lead to the break.

The defense stepped up in the third quarter, holding the Battlers to just seven points and allowing the Panthers to take a 12-point lead into the final frame.  Wesleyan never surrendered its double digit lead in the fourth quarter.  Codie Drake drilled a pair of free throws in the closing minute to put the Panthers ahead by 21, their largest lead of the game.

Wesleyan tabbed 10 three-pointers including three from Wolfe who tabbed 11 points.  Lamb led the offense with 14 points while dishing out five assists.  Lamb was also a threat on defense, grabbing five defensive rebounds, three steals and one block.  Lily Grimes led the team with seven assists while Reimbold recorded a team-high five steals.

Kentucky Wesleyan hits the road next week for a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference games.  The Panthers head to Hillsdale College on Thursday with tip off set for 4:30 pm CT.  On Saturday Wesleyan heads to University of Findlay with a 2 pm CT start.  Saturday's matchup will be showcased on ESPN3 and streamed live on the ESPN app.
