Women's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight G-MAC Game

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team posted its fourth straight conference win on Thursday night, defeating Davis & Elkins College 79-69.  The Panthers drained 13 three pointers in the victory, falling one short of the program set in 2007 and tying the record during co-head coaches Caleb and Nicole Nieman's time at Wesleyan.

The Senators tallied the first four points of the game but the Panthers fought back to take a four-point lead of their own three minutes into the game.  The two teams traded leads over the next five minutes until back to back three pointers from Emma Wolfe and Addie Reimbold put the Panthers ahead by six.  Kentucky Wesleyan never trailed from then on.

At the 9:26 mark of the second quarter Kelsey Ivers nailed a three to give the Panthers their first double digit lead of the game.  Wesleyan built up a 12-point lead in the second frame but the Senators fought back to come within five at the half.

Wesleyan took advantage of a Senator technical four minutes into the second half to go on a 12-0 run, building up an 18-point lead while holding Davis & Elkins scoreless for nearly four minutes of play.  The Panthers held the Senators to 12 points in the third frame, their lowest of any quarter.

Davis & Elkins clawed back to pull within five with just over five minutes remaining.  Jenna Martin halted the Senators run with a three pointer with Lily Grimes on the assist.  Wesleyan held the Senators to two points in the final two minutes to hold on for the 79-69 win.

Martin finished with 15 points, shooting four-for-six behind the arc.  Ivers tallied 13 points with 10 of them coming from the charity stripe.  Shayla Wright and Keelie Lamb also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.  Lamb, Grimes and Jasmine Shelt each grabbed six rebounds while Grimes dished out six assists.

Wesleyan remains at home this weekend, hosting Alderson Broaddus on Saturday at 1 pm CT in their first meeting of the season.
