HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Kentucky Wesleyan College football team saw Hillsdale College produce a strong second quarter on Saturday afternoon in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference season opener. The Chargers scored 28 points in the second frame on their way to a 56-0 victory over the Panthers.
The Chargers (3-1, 1-0 G-MAC) opened the day with a six-play, 51-yard scoring drive. David Graham capped off the drive with a four-yard touchdown run.
Mike McGee completed five of his first seven passes, including a 17-yard connection with
Trey Waltermire that got the Panthers (1-3, 0-1 G-MAC) near the redzone.
Wesleyan was unable to answer as the Charger defense pushed back. The Panthers were on the Hillsdale 23 yardline before a sack and penalty pushed the line of scrimmage to the 43. After the punt put Hillsdale back at their own 17, Chance Stewart orchestrated a 12-play series that produced another touchdown.
The second quarter saw the Charges control possession. Hillsdale scored four times and kept the Wesleyan defense on the field for 12 minutes in the frame. McGee started to find his rhythm on the last series.
The Charges held a 42-0 lead at the half. The Panthers best scoring chance was in the third quarter, but it ended with a turnover on the Hillsdale four-yardline. By games end, the Chargers tallied 659 yards and 27 first downs.
McGee completed 14 of 32 passes for 106 yards.
Derek Barnes mad five catches for 35 yards. Todd James made nine tackles while
Malcolm Johnson recorded eight stops.
